To get Mehrunes’ Razor in Oblivion Remastered, you need to complete the “Unearthing Mehrunes’ Razor” quest, which is part of the Mehrunes’ Razor DLC.
Step 1: Start the Quest
Note: In the remaster, no auto-quest popup. You must start it yourself.
Where to Go:
- Travel to Sundercliff Watch (east of Bravil, near Lake Canulus).
- It’s already marked on your map.
Recommended Level: 20+ (but doable at lower levels with stealth and ranged attacks).
Time to Reach: ~5 minutes.
Step 2: Enter Sundercliff Watch
- Fight or sneak past Drothmeri Soldiers at the entrance.
- Reach a locked door where a voice speaks — you can’t answer yet.
- Find a knapsack near the door. Read the diary inside to learn about Frathen Drothan’s hunt for the Razor.
Tip: Bring strong weapons, good armor, and healing potions.
Step 3: Find and Collect the Bezoars
Go through to Sundercliff Village — a big dungeon full of enemies (soldiers, vampires, workers).
Find Drothan’s cabin (marked on your compass) and read his journal. It tells you to collect two Enchanted Bezoars.
Defeat:
- Drothmeri Commander (in Village or Mines)
- The Forgemaster (upper level of the Forge)
Each drops a Bezoar (higher-level versions if you’re a higher level).
Tip: Stealth or ranged attacks help a lot. Save often.
Time to Collect: ~20–40 minutes.
Step 4: Unlock Varsa Baalim
- Go back to the Enchanted Pedestals near the ruin entrance.
- Place the two Bezoars to open the path into Varsa Baalim.
- Time: ~5 minutes.
Step 5: Enter the Nefarivigum
- From the pedestals, head northeast.
- Climb debris and cross broken walls to find the Nefarivigum entrance.
- Inside, you’ll see Frathen Drothan studying a frozen statue (Msirae Faythung).
- Sneak to his bedroll and read his field journal for Razor clues.
- Time: ~5–10 minutes.
Step 6: Get Mehrunes’ Razor
Pick one of these methods:
Method 1: Kill Drothan
- Attack and kill him.
- Read his diary to find out how to unlock the Razor.
- Needs: Good combat skills (Blade, Destruction).
Method 2: Strength Build (Strength 90+)
- Sneak to the gate and force it open without fighting.
- Grab the Razor and leave.
Method 3: Trigger Drothan vs Faythung
- Steal the Beating Heart from the statue.
- Faythung wakes and fights Drothan.
- Kill the winner or sneak while they fight.
Method 4: Sneak and Steal
Sneak in, steal the heart, open the gate during the chaos, and take the Razor.
Tip:
- Method 2 is fastest for strong characters.
- Method 3 is safest for stealth players.
- Time: ~5–15 minutes depending on method.
Step 7: Escape
- After grabbing the Razor, a path opens into the Forgotten Tunnels.
- Fight or sneak past small enemies (like rats and mud crabs).
- Swim through a submerged door into Lake Canulus.
- Time to Exit: ~5–10 minutes.
