The Withering Rod in Fish It is a Forgotten-tier fishing rod that can only be crafted after completing three major quests or requirements.
Below, we have shared a complete step-by-step guide that will help you finish each requirement and unlock the materials needed to craft the Withering Rod.
Step 1: The Null NPC Quest
- Travel to Copper Canyon (between Coral Reefs and Lost Isle).
- Go to the Copper Canyon Mine entrance.
- Find NPC Null.
- Talk to him → Select “The Withering Rod”.
- Click through “More Information” and accept the quest.
Complete the 4 Objectives:
You must fulfill four specific requirements for this first phase.
- Equip Diamond Rod.
- Complete your Fish Index (up to Mythic rarity).
- Give Null a Mutated Megalodon.
- Catch a Flame, Tyron in Copper Canyon.
- Craft 3 Oculus Charms at the Lava Basin crafting bench.
Step 2: Find the Withering Reel
- Hunt Sunken Treasure Chests underwater.
- Open them until you get the Withering Reel (RNG drop).
Step 3: Fish for the Withering Core
After obtaining the Withering Reel, the final step unlocks.

- Withering Rod stats are fully based on the Withering Core used.
- Use extra Cores to reroll the rod’s stats.
- Shiny, Big, or Mutated Cores give much better stats.
- Mutated Core also changes the rod’s color/aura.
